SLOOP POPKELDER SNEEK

Muziekoefenruimte “De Popkelder” gelegen aan de voet van de Watertoren in Sneek, bestaat volgend jaar 20 jaar. Niet slecht voor een voorziening die draait zonder gemeentelijke subsidie. Tomeloze inzet van vrijwilligers, en een enkele beheerder, maken het mogelijk dat 20 bands iedere week kunnen oefenen. Toen ons ter ore kwam dat de Popkelder moest wijken voor woningbouw, sloeg menigeen de schrik om het hart. Wat als de Popkelder zou verdwijnen?! Na veel indianenverhalen nodigde de Gemeente Sneek ons vorig jaar uit om de bascule van de voormalige Geeuwbrug eens te komen bekijken. Wat we aantroffen was een betonnen bak met 1 toilet.........DE POPKELDER WAS GERED!!! Een planning werd overlegd, en na de verbouwing in de bascule zou zonder veel problemen kunnen worden verhuisd met bands en instrumentaria. We verheugden ons er op. Na een opgesteld Programma van Eisen en enkele schetsen bleef het stil bij de Gemeente. Vorige week kwam ons ter ore dat de huidige Popkelder in September gesloopt gaat worden. Ongeloof en verbijstering overmanden ons. Een kind kon begrijpen dat in deze korte tijdspanne geen nieuwe locatie bij de voormalige Geeuwbrug kon worden gerealiseerd. Wat nu? Een antwoord blijft uit op deze prangende vraag. Het kan toch niet zo zijn dat de Gemeente Sneek de popkelder zomaar vergeet. Dat het theater waaraan miljoenen besteedt worden voor de Gemeente prioriteit heeft, snappen wij. Dat het Bolwerk tijdens het bestaan van de Popkelder aan zijn 2e grootscheepse verbouwing toe is snappen wij iets minder, maar daar heeft de Gemeente ongetwijfeld een plausibele verklaring voor. Dat de Popkelder straks geen locatie heeft is niet te verkroppen en stuit op weinig vertrouwen in de politiek. Haast u met de verbouwing aan de Geeuwlocatie Gemeente!!! De doorsnee popkeldermuzikant is geen muziekschoolganger, maar weet op vaak autodidactische wijze de de hoogste vorm van kunst te beoefenen, namelijk; “in een bandje spelen”. Continuïteit is hierbij onontbeerlijk en muzikanten zullen dan ook ongetwijfeld in actie komen wanneer zij op straat komen te staan.

After nearly 7 years growing from a sloppy beer drinking band to what we are now, we’ve decided to lay our precious Sudden Access to rest. Over the past years we made 2 demo’s, one album and one EP, shared stages with many great bands and had loads of fun. It was definitely an interesting journey, and we look back at our past with absolutely no regrets, only with pride.

Now it's time to look forward again. First of all, before we really pull the plug out of Sudden Access, we will be coming together again to play the scheduled shows that are planned for 2009. Keep you informed on our website, Myspace, Hyves ore Twitter. We hope to see you all on one of our last shows. Come thrash and party with us one more time!

Sudden Access urgently looking for venues, youth centers and bars to rock the stage, and we need YOUR help! Of course, if you help us out, you aren’t doing it for nothing! Arrange us a show and we will reward you with merchandising and CD’S!
